Onboard store Byron Bay – Byron Bay is a Mecca for surfers and the Onboard store is “the” place to hang out when in town. Amateurs and professionals alike drop in to soak up the laid-back vibes and have a coffee with the crew while swapping stories of last week’s peaks.

Surf shops are a hang out. They are not the kind of place where you rush in, make your purchase, and get home fast. Clients need to pass time browsing the huge selection of boards standing in their custom-made racks. They need to sit and relax while discussing the benefits of a 5 fin setup over a single fin with the knowledgeable crew members. They need to feel comfortable while choosing which of the huge range of surf accessories they are going to part with their hard-earned cash for. The team from Mahallati Interiors provided the support and technical assistance needed to help the owners get their ideas out and into physical reality.

So it is that Mahallati Interiors have applied what they have learnt on previous surf shop fit outs to make sure the owners and client’s needs are met and exceeded. Plantation grown kiln dried Indonesian Teak is once again the material of choice for the task. Custom racking systems for boards, apparel and accessories populate the spacious floor plan allowing for easy perusal of the displayed wares. Shop counters, tables, stools, boxes and other functional items made from Teak are scattered throughout the project providing a display, or a seat, where it is needed.

Classy and sophisticated touches like the woven Lloyd Loom material on the stools seats and the plush leather Chesterfield style sofa raise the comfort and relaxation level further still. Teak’s golden-brown hues are best enjoyed when left unstained and allowed to age and gain patina naturally. Layers of hardwearing polyurethane lacquer are all that is needed to protect the wood in this high traffic application.

The outcome of the owner’s vision coupled with Mahallati Interiors extensive knowhow is akin much more to a clubhouse, than a place of business. A place that warmly welcomes its clientele with a coffee and a yarn before the inevitable purchases are made. Then it is a trip down to the break to catch a tube or two before returning tomorrow to share the stories of the ride and perhaps another tweak of that fin set up. Making friends that become like family and sharing experiences and exploits in the salty blue ocean are the side effects of spending time in the Onboard store Byron Bay.
